Episode 85: A Summer of Firsts

We’re back after a brief hiatus, and we’re kicking things off with some firsts!

This week, we share stories from our recent trip to Savannah and Hilton Head—our first time visiting both! We made the journey for a truly special occasion: a surprise birthday party for Jenn’s great aunt (and Godmother) who turned 95! 

Back home, we experienced another “first”: a block party on our street! While most of the festivities were in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street, we met 3 couples who are our age with grown kids. We’d never met them in the 4 years we’ve lived here, so that was nice.

We know that the political landscape is still stressful, so we thought we’d take a break from politics and didn’t bring it up once!

Episode 82: To-Do Lists, Travel Tales, & the Social Media Tightrope

In this week’s episode of In the Shadow of the Evening Trees, we cover a little bit of everything—because that’s how life goes!

Jenn shares stories from her recent work trip to San Francisco, while Dave takes a stroll down memory lane to his own high school visit to the Bay Area. With warmer days ahead, we’re opening the pool and prepping for summer—though Dave may not have realized that Jenn’s weekend to-do list was less of a one-off and more of a new tradition (surprise!).

We also dive into a thoughtful conversation about social media: when the people you follow post a lot, is it a harmless outlet or does it sometimes cross a line into stress-inducing territory? We get it—it’s complicated.

Episode 40: New Cars and New Jobs … Part Two

Hey, we made it to forty episodes! (In, like, a year and a half. But still.)

Anyway, in this week’s episode: when you podcast it, it comes true. Last episode we talked about getting a new car and Jennifer getting a new job. This week, both of those things happened.

We also talk about public transportation, the upcoming Garland Jeffreys documentary, Garland Jeffreys: The King of In Between, the return of summer and the last pool weekend of the season, vacationing in the Bahamas, Illinois football and the upcoming Homecoming game, bad sports fans, and … winter is coming.
